So far, recon squads and advanced artillery from Verdun are map based, meaning anyone can use them. This means it is less crowded, even with double the players, and firefights are generally at a much longer range. Instead of long, skinny, hilly maps like Verdun, most of the maps in Tannenberg are much wider, with plenty of features (forests, houses, etc) and gentler slopes. The colour will drain from the map icon when the enemy is taking the sector, which is a good indication that you should go defend it, or barrage it with artillery. the colours denote which side owns which sector, with sectors going white when nobody owns them.= The command sector – these are generally in the center of the map and take more points from your enemies than the others. = standard sectors – not special in any way, just a landmark really. = the recon sector – allows you to know the location of your enemies by pressing ‘B’ and aiming on the map. = the artillery sector - allows you to fire large artillery barrages at your enemy by pressing ‘B’ and aiming on the map. = the ammo sector - allows you to refill your ammo by pressing ‘B’, useful for grenades. = the headquarters - which can’t be taken by your enemies until it is the last sector left, and is where you start the match. The more sectors you have, the more points the enemy team loses. The aim of the game is to take sectors of the map by standing in the capture points, and win by taking them all, having the most when the time runs out, or making your enemy run out of points. So I did a little write up of what I've learnt so far, which might help some new players out. "It’s already a better game, certainly a more exciting one, but it’s not got as unique an appeal.I noticed a lot of players were confused on what to do in game, how to play, what the symbols meant, how to win, etc. On November 30 two weeks after release Tannenberg had 92% positive user reviews on Steam.Ī Rock Paper Shotgun Early Access review of the game commended it for portraying war with some nuance: "While war shooters typically deal in bombast and screaming and artillery barrages, Tannenberg juxtaposes that with quiet, everyday tragedies." The reviewer described Tannenberg as an improvement compared to Verdun, but also less unique. Players can earn experience and Career Points by killing other players, and with the Career Points can level up their rifles, gaining extra accessories for it, such as a bayonet. This is a skill-based game-mode, where marksmanship and tactical cunning are rewarded. Rifle Deathmatch game mode In Rifle Deathmatch, players fight in a free for all battle, armed only with one of the rifles and add-ons they can choose from when joining the game. The goal of the game is to diminish the opposing side’s tickets before losing all the tickets on your side, because a player cannot respawn if there are no more tickets. Every time a player is killed and respawns, a ticket is deducted from the side he belongs to. These represent the amount of manpower that each side has at its disposal. Each team, the Entente and the Central Powers, start with a number of tickets. Supply lines are represented by requiring sectors to be connected to a team's HQ sector before that team can capture it.Īttrition Warfare game mode This is a variant of a team deathmatch battle. Some sectors grant special abilities like recon planes and artillery strikes. The game ends when one team runs out of resources, when either team's HQ sector is captured, or when the match time runs out. Holding sectors provides control points (more or less depending on the value of the sector) and the team with the most control points will drain the other side's resources. After choosing a squad type and role within the squad, players join the battle where they have to capture sectors. Maneuver game mode In the Maneuver game mode, players join either the Entente or the Central Powers. There are 3 game modes in Tannenberg: Maneuver, Attrition Warfare and Rifle Deathmatch.
